Having Fun whilst out walking. When out with your dogs remember they are man's best friend and most would defend you whatever the cost, so if you meet other dogs out on a walk remember they are only doing the same. They will show their dominance normally by raising their tails as high as they can along with hackles up and strutting. If either show the slightest wrong move - and you as the owner might not see this wrong move - they will pitch in and have a go at each other to claim victory over saving their master and the territory they are on. So when out walking and you see your dog go towards another quickly use his/her name quite firmly but with no malice and say be nice, this will reassure your best friend that you are happy with the situation. Arguments do happen though and as a dog owner we must realise that not all dogs, like people, will get along, no one will want their dog to have a fight with another, it isn't a pretty sight or sound. So if your dog has a disagreement with another while you are out walking, show him/her that you are not happy with their behaviour by either a timeout down stay for a few minutes or a time back on the lead, and do talk to them getting eye contact like you would your children. They understand much more than we give them credit for and a tone in your voice will often be enough, as long as it is quick enough. Happy dog walking.
